Pixel art is a digital art form where images are created at the pixel level, typically at low resolutions like 16x16, giving them a distinctive retro aesthetic reminiscent of early video games, 8-bit computers, and classic arcade machines. Pixel Art Editor provides a complete 16x16 grid editor with color palette, drawing tools, undo history, and PNG export.
The 16x16 grid provides 256 individual pixels to work with — enough detail for game sprites, icons, and simple illustrations while keeping the classic pixel art constraint. Paint by clicking or dragging on the grid. The smooth drawing experience means you can draw curves and shapes freehand, with each individual pixel lighting up as you brush over it.
The tool palette includes Pen (paint individual pixels), Eraser (clear pixels to the background), and Eyedropper (pick a color from existing pixels). The Fill tool fills all connected pixels of the same color. The 24 preset colors cover the essential palette for most pixel art projects, plus a custom color picker for specific hues.
The 20-step undo history lets you experiment freely. If a color choice or pixel placement does not work, step back through your changes. Export the final artwork as a PNG image at its native 16x16 resolution, which can be scaled up in external tools for game engines, icons, or print.
